Jaipur: In a significant development, the promotion of Kanchan Chauhan—daughter of BJP MLA Shankar Singh Rawat—has been withheld after discrepancies surfaced in her disability-related medical documents. While several officers from the Tehsildar cadre received promotions following the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) meeting, Chauhan’s file was sealed and kept pending.
Mismatch in Medical Certificates Blocks Promotion
According to departmental sources, the promotion was stalled due to contradictory information in Chauhan’s medical certificates. One document reportedly categorizes her as 40% disabled, while another places her disability at 30%. The conflicting assessments prompted the authorities to halt her elevation until further verification is completed.
Officials confirmed that because Chauhan’s promotion was based on disability quota eligibility, even minor differences in medical evaluations could directly impact her claim. “Inconsistent disability reports raise administrative concerns. The department has, therefore, sealed her file for the time being,” an insider noted.
Selected Under Disability Quota in RAS 2018
Kanchan Chauhan, currently posted as Tehsildar in Kareda, Bhilwara, was selected in the RAS 2018 recruitment cycle under the disabled (divyang) quota, citing hearing impairment. Her 40% disability certificate had enabled her selection in the reserved category.
However, her appointment has faced questions in the past as well. Following complaints, the case reached the Special Operations Group (SOG), which ordered a fresh medical evaluation. The subsequent report was submitted to the state government.
Awaiting Final Decision
While other officers have already stepped into their new roles, Chauhan’s promotion remains on hold pending clarification of her medical status. The department has indicated that a final decision will be taken only after reconciling the contradictory certificates.
