The sacred Panchkoshi Parikrama of the Prayagraj Magh Mela commenced on Monday under the joint aegis of the Prayagraj Mela Authority, Shri Panchdashnam Juna Akhara and the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad. A large number of saints and seers are participating in the five-day spiritual journey, during which they will offer prayers at prominent ancient temples and pilgrimage sites across the city.
Preparations for the parikrama were reviewed on Sunday in a meeting chaired by Juna Akhara General Secretary Hari Giri Maharaj, attended by several senior saints. The parikrama began from the Sangam area, where devotees performed the holy bath before proceeding for temple visits.
On the first day, saints visited Akshayavat, Lete Hanuman Temple, Dattatreya Temple (Juna Akhara), Saraswati Koop, Ram Ghat, Maujigiri Samadhi, Siddhapeeth Maa Lalita Devi, Maa Kalyani Devi and Vankhandi Mahadev, offering ritual worship at each site.
Five-Day Spiritual Itinerary
According to the schedule, on Tuesday, the parikrama will cover Shooltankeshwar Mahadev (Arail), Adi Madhav, Chakra Madhav, Someshwar Mahadev, Gada Madhav at Chhivki and Bhairav Baba temple in Mahewa village.
On Wednesday, devotees will visit Mankameshwar Mahadev at Lalapur, Padma Madhav at Bikar, Sujavan Dev Temple at Deoria, Parashar Rishi Ashram in Panasa, Valmiki Ashram and Jwala Devi Temple.
The fourth day (Thursday) includes visits to Shankh Madhav, Durvasa Rishi Ashram at Kakra Dubawal, Sankat Haran Hanuman at Rampur, Pandeshwar Mahadev, Sitakund, Nishadraj Sthali, Nagvasuki, Veni Madhav and Alopi Shankar Mata Temple.
On the final day (Friday), saints will take a holy dip at the Sangam, followed by worship at Shri Ram Janaki Temple located in the Juna Akhara, after which a grand community feast (bhandara) will be organised.
Senior administrative officials including Divisional Commissioner Saumya Agrawal, District Magistrate Manish Verma, Additional Police Commissioner Ajaypal Sharma, Mela Officer Rishiraj and Mela Police Officer Neeraj Pandey were present during the preparations.
Ritual Worship of Dandi Sanyasis
At the Charkhi Dadri Ashram (Haryana) camp, Juna Akhara patron Hari Giri Maharaj performed traditional rituals to honour the Dandi Sanyasis, formally inviting them to participate in the Panchkoshi Parikrama. Prominent figures present included Dandi Sanyasi Parishad President Brahmashram Maharaj, Juna Akhara Chairman Mohan Bharti and Prem Giri.
Magh Mela: A Festival of Faith and Tradition
As part of the Magh Mela cultural programmes, a seminar titled ‘Shabd-Brahma’ was organised under the theme ‘A Festival of Public Faith and Collective Belief’. Scholars highlighted the spiritual, cultural and historical significance of the Magh Mela and Prayagraj, citing references from the Brahma Purana and Skanda Purana.
The cultural evening at the Kala Sangam pavilion featured devotional songs, folk dances and a special performance by Padma Shri Malini Awasthi, who enthralled the audience with popular folk compositions. Mayor Umesh Chandra Ganesh Kesarwani and senior culture department officials were also present.
The Panchkoshi Parikrama continues to stand as a symbol of Prayagraj’s deep-rooted spiritual heritage, blending devotion, tradition and collective faith.
