Prashant Kishore Tackles Resignations and Restructures Jan Suraj After Bihar Poll Defeat

Patna, Bihar:
After a disappointing debut in the Bihar Assembly elections last year, Prashant Kishore’s Jan Suraj Party is refusing to concede defeat and is actively restructuring its organisation to strengthen its grassroots base. The party has emphasised that it now needs committed leaders and dedicated workers, learning lessons from past mistakes.

In a major step towards internal reform, Jan Suraj dissolved all its internal committees in November 2025, replacing nominated members with elected representatives to ensure democratic functioning down to the booth level. According to party leadership, this move aims to eliminate the culture of top-down appointments and foster accountability among leaders.

Resignations Shake the Party

Despite these efforts, the party has faced a wave of high-profile exits. Bhojpuri singer Ritesh Pan announced his resignation on Monday, citing renewed focus on his music career. Former Union Minister RCP Singh also hinted at a possible return to Janata Dal (United) led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

Addressing these developments, Jan Suraj President Manoj Bharti said, “We are learning from our mistakes. Those leaving us were never truly committed. The party is undergoing change, and only genuine leaders will remain.” Bharti reiterated that the party’s reorganisation and committee elections aim to strengthen its base and long-term strategy.

Learning From Bihar Poll Defeat

The Bihar Assembly elections were a sobering experience for Jan Suraj. Contesting 238 seats, the party lost deposits in 235 constituencies, securing only 3.4% of the vote share. Kishore’s major initiatives included inviting applications for the second installment of the Chief Minister’s Women Employment Scheme, benefiting 1.62 crore potential female entrepreneurs. However, the scheme, announced just before the polls, helped NDA secure 202 of 243 seats, delivering a decisive defeat for Jan Suraj.

Despite being out of the spotlight since the election, Prashant Kishore is preparing to resume public political activity. Party leaders have indicated that Kishore will return to Bihar in February to personally oversee organisational reforms and roll out the party’s long-term programs following the formation of new committees.

“The reorganisation is just the beginning,” Bharti told The Indian Express. “Jan Suraj is committed to learning from its failures and building a robust, people-centric political force in Bihar.”
