Lucknow/Sultanpur: A political stir has erupted in Uttar Pradesh following the alleged disrespect toward Jagadguru Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati. The issue, touching upon religious sentiments and Sanatan traditions, has escalated into a poster campaign from Lucknow to Sultanpur.
On Saturday, Congress leader Sharad Shukla put up hoardings outside party offices, expressing strong condemnation of the alleged incident and questioning the BJP government’s claims of respecting Sanatan traditions. The posters cited religious and moral references, including verses from the Manusmriti and Ramcharitmanas, warning that those who disrespect gurus or Vedic scholars face severe consequences.
In Sultanpur, a similar poster campaign was launched near the district collectorate by Congress leader Subrat Singh. The hoardings prominently stated, “India will not tolerate the disrespect of the Shankaracharya,” highlighting the alleged mistreatment of the religious leader and his disciples while criticizing the state government’s response.
Sharad Shukla emphasized that he stands firmly for the respect of Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand and Sanatan traditions. He stated that the incident in Prayagraj hurt religious sentiments and required public attention. The posters signaled that the Congress party will not remain silent on the matter and raised questions on the BJP government’s claims of promoting inclusive development and reverence for Sanatan traditions.
The controversy, which began in Prayagraj, has now spread to Sultanpur, intensifying political tensions. Congress leaders assert that the matter concerns not just one individual but the respect of the entire Sanatan community.
