Patna, Bihar: Following the conclusion of the Bihar Assembly elections, the state government has accelerated work on road and bridge projects across the region. Among the key initiatives, construction on the highly ambitious Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway has gained momentum. This six-lane corridor will pass through eight districts in Bihar, promising direct developmental benefits to these areas.
Land Acquisition Underway
The Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway will begin from Paharpur in East Champaran. Land acquisition has already started in the district, covering approximately 491.12 hectares and passing through 56 villages. After East Champaran, the expressway will enter Shivhar district, continuing through Bihar towards its northern corridor.
Enhanced Connectivity Between UP and Bihar
Once completed, the expressway will significantly ease travel between Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. As a greenfield expressway, it will follow a new route away from densely populated areas, minimizing potential hurdles in land acquisition.
Boost to Local Development and Employment
The project is expected to spur economic growth along its route, providing job opportunities for local communities and improving overall infrastructure in the region.
Cost and District Coverage
The expressway will traverse West Champaran, East Champaran, Shivhar, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Supaul, Araria, and Kishanganj. Direct connectivity between these districts will reduce travel time for passengers, and the total distance between Gorakhpur and Siliguri will decrease to less than 600 kilometers. The project is estimated to cost around ₹32,000 crore.
With this strategic development, Bihar is set to witness a significant boost in regional connectivity, economic growth, and employment opportunities, making the Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway a transformative infrastructure project for the state.
