Political Turmoil Peaks in Bihar Congress; 15 District Presidents Issued Notices for Skipping Review Meeting

Patna: Amid escalating internal unrest, the Bihar Congress has issued notices to 15 district presidents for failing to attend a crucial review meeting convened by Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee (BPCC) president Rajesh Ram on December 1. The meeting was also attended by Krishna Allavaru, the party’s in-charge for Bihar. In a letter issued by Congress office secretary Nalin Kumar, the district leaders have been asked to explain their absence from the meeting.

This move comes in the backdrop of the party’s continued disciplinary action following its humiliating defeat in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. Earlier, on November 18, just days after the election results, the Congress had issued show-cause notices to 43 leaders for alleged anti-party activities, including deviating from party lines and making statements that adversely affected the party’s prospects. Contesting 61 seats, the Congress managed to win only six, a sharp fall from its 19-seat tally in 2020.

Recently, seven leaders were expelled from the party for six years over charges of indiscipline and working against the party during the elections. These actions reflect the Congress leadership’s growing frustration after the poor electoral performance, which eventually paved the way for the NDA to form the government.

During the December 1 meeting, several district-level office-bearers reportedly blamed senior leadership for the party’s downfall. They accused top leaders of ignoring district units during the campaign, pointing to irregularities in ticket distribution and a lack of coordination within the Mahagathbandhan (MGB)/INDIA bloc alliance.

Some district presidents alleged that election observers rarely interacted with them and focused only on candidates, undermining the organisation’s role in strengthening the campaign. Many also cited flawed candidate selection as a key reason for the party’s defeat.

The district chiefs further criticised the alliance with the RJD, claiming that the Congress was treated casually by its partner. They alleged that RJD’s rigid stance during seat allocation and its practice of fielding unofficial candidates in constituencies allotted to the Congress weakened the party’s official candidates and hampered unity within the alliance.
