Following a violent attack on a police team in Sathla village under the Mawana police station area of Meerut district, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr. Vipin Tada has taken strict administrative action. A sub-inspector and a constable have been suspended for negligence, while additional security measures have been put in place to maintain law and order in the village.
Sub-Inspector Saurav Rawat and Constable Sunil were suspended after an internal inquiry found lapses in duty. In addition, Sathla police outpost in-charge Sandeep Kumar has been removed from his post and replaced by Sumit Tomar. An additional inspector has also been posted at the outpost to strengthen supervision.
40 Criminals Identified, History Sheets to Be Opened
SSP Dr. Tada informed that police have identified 40 active criminals in the village. Orders have been issued to open history sheets against 11 of them. To prevent such incidents in the future, land has also been identified for the construction of a permanent police outpost building in Sathla village, with construction work to begin soon.
PAC Deployed, Flag March Conducted
To ensure peace and deter further violence, a platoon of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) has been deployed in the village and is conducting regular patrols. On Thursday, SSP Dr. Vipin Tada personally visited Sathla along with a heavy police force. Accompanied by SP Rural Abhijeet Singh, the Circle Officer, local police officials, and PAC personnel, he conducted a flag march to reassure residents and convey a strong message of law enforcement.
Police also deployed two drones to monitor rooftops and open areas, collecting information about stones or bricks stored on terraces to avert any potential threat in advance.
Incident Details
The incident occurred on Tuesday night, when a police team from the Sathla outpost reached the village in a private vehicle after receiving information about Nitin, a resident of Ramnagar village in the Parikshitgarh area, being held hostage and assaulted.
According to police, Talha, his differently-abled brother Abdul Qadir (both residents of Sathla), and Gulab alias Yasir, a resident of Delhi, attacked the police personnel. During the assault, two official pistols were snatched, police uniforms were torn, and officers were chased and beaten. A video of the incident later went viral on social media, drawing widespread attention.
Upon receiving the information, senior officers and local police rushed to the spot and arrested all three accused. They were produced before a court on Thursday and sent to judicial custody. Police teams are continuing raids to arrest other individuals involved in the attack.
Dispute Over Financial Dealings
Preliminary investigation revealed that the incident stemmed from a financial dispute of around ₹30 lakh between Nitin and the main accused Talha. Police said ₹18 lakh had already been paid, while a dispute remained over the remaining ₹12 lakh. Nitin was allegedly called to the village, taken hostage, and brutally assaulted. His leg was broken with an iron rod during the attack. The injured victim is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
The Meerut police have reiterated a zero-tolerance policy toward attacks on law enforcement personnel and assured strict action against all those involved in the incident.
