Jaisalmer:
Tension has gripped Pokhran town in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer district following the killing of a bull, an incident that has triggered widespread anger and calls for a complete shutdown on Saturday. Although the police have arrested three accused in the case, Hindu organisations have announced a Pokhran bandh to protest the incident and demand stringent punishment for those involved.
The Pokhran police registered the case on Friday after a complaint was filed by Raju Singh, a resident of Biliya village, alleging that unidentified miscreants had killed a bull during the night of Thursday. Acting swiftly, the police launched an investigation under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Abhishek Shivhare.
Police Action and Arrests
Special police teams were constituted, and officials from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and the veterinary department were deployed to examine the crime scene. Following the investigation, police arrested three accused in connection with the killing.
The arrested persons have been identified as Gaffar Khan and Murad Ali, residents of Gommat village, and Mohammad Sharif, a resident of Pokhran. Police officials said the accused are being interrogated, and further investigation is underway to establish the sequence of events and motive behind the crime.
Call for Shutdown and Protest
Despite the arrests, public anger has not subsided. Pokhran MLA Mahant Pratap Puri has called for a complete shutdown of the town on Saturday. Various Hindu organisations have extended their support to the bandh and announced a large-scale protest outside the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) office.
Protesters are expected to demand strict legal action and exemplary punishment for those involved in the killing of the bull. Heavy police deployment has been made in sensitive areas to maintain law and order during the bandh.
Administration on Alert
District authorities have appealed for calm and assured that the case will be pursued strictly in accordance with the law. Security arrangements have been tightened across Pokhran to prevent any untoward incident as protests continue.
The incident has once again highlighted the sensitivity surrounding cattle-related issues in the region and their potential to trigger widespread public unrest despite swift police action.
