Guwahati: Ahead of the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi began his campaign on a high note during his visit to the northeastern state on Saturday. After inaugurating the emergency landing facility in Dibrugarh and unveiling multiple development projects in Guwahati, PM Modi addressed a massive rally of BJP workers, delivering a sharp critique of the Congress party.
Targeting Congress on National Security and Northeast Issues
In his speech, PM Modi accused Congress of supporting those who harbor ill intentions toward the nation. “Today’s Congress elevates anyone who dreams of dividing the country or seeks to separate the Northeast from India,” he said. He urged BJP workers to alert citizens about the dangers of Congress’ ideology, adding that the party has become more “poisonous” after a decade out of power.
PM Modi further compared contemporary Congress with historical divisive forces, labeling it the “Muslim League-Maoist Congress (MMC)” and claiming it aims to destabilize the nation once again. “You must remain vigilant and ensure the people of Assam understand the threat,” he asserted.
Highlighting Assam’s Progress under BJP Rule
PM Modi highlighted Assam’s development under BJP governance, stating that peace and progress have reached the region for the first time. He praised former insurgents from groups like Bodo, Karbi, DNLA, and ULFA who have renounced violence and embraced the Constitution. Key infrastructure milestones, including the new IIM Palasbari campus and modernization of IIT Guwahati, were also emphasized. He contrasted BJP’s proactive policies with Congress’ inaction during its tenure, noting slow technological adoption and limited budget allocation for the Northeast.
Operation Sindoor and National Pride
The Prime Minister underscored India’s strength in national security, referencing Operation Sindoor as an example of decisive action. “Has Congress ever displayed the courage to make such bold decisions for the nation?” he asked, criticizing the party for allegedly disrespecting the idea of India and the motherland.
Remembering Pulwama Martyrs
PM Modi also paid tribute to the martyrs of the Pulwama attack, marking its anniversary. “The world witnessed India’s firm response to the perpetrators of terrorism,” he said, reaffirming India’s commitment to justice.
With elections just months away in Assam, PM Modi’s visit was widely viewed as the formal launch of BJP’s electoral campaign in the state, energizing over 30,000 party workers present at the rally.
