Pension Fraud in Ballia: Woman Poses as Widow for 11 Years to Illegally Claim Benefits

Ballia, Uttar Pradesh: A shocking pension fraud has come to light in Ballia, where a woman allegedly impersonated the widow of a deceased railway employee to illegally receive family pension for nearly 11 years. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the matter.

According to reports, the complaint was filed by Dharmendra Yadav, a resident of Bhelai village under Rasra police station. Based on his complaint, the police have lodged a case against Parvati Devi, another unidentified member of the Maldhani Yadav family, and some unidentified staff from the Rasra block office.

The deceased, Maldhani Yadav, a retired railway employee from the village, passed away on 28 August 2007. After his death, his wife, Prabhavati Devi, received the family pension. Following her death on 21 March 2014, it is alleged that Maldhani Yadav’s relatives presented Parvati Devi as Prabhavati Devi using forged documents, enabling her to continue receiving the pension illegally for several years.

The complaint also alleges that certain officials in the block office colluded in the fraud, allowing the pension payments to continue uninterrupted.

Addressing the case, Circle Officer Alok Kumar Gupta stated that police are investigating every aspect of the matter. A formal case has been registered against Parvati Devi and other unidentified accused, and the probe is ongoing.
