Siwan (Bihar): Panic spread across Bihar’s political circles after two senior Janata Dal (United) leaders — JDU MP Vijay Laxmi Devi and Barharia MLA Inderdev Singh Patel — received death threats demanding extortion money. The caller threatened to shoot them if they failed to pay ₹10 lakh.
Both leaders filed written complaints in their respective police stations, following which FIRs were lodged under serious charges relating to extortion and criminal intimidation.
Threats Came From the Same Number
Siwan Superintendent of Police Vikram Sihal confirmed that both threat calls were made from the same mobile number. The police have identified the number and also traced the individual suspected of using it.
According to the SP, the accused is likely to be arrested soon. Preliminary investigation suggests the threat may have been issued either as a misguided act of mischief or to assert local dominance.
Police Treating the Case as High Priority
After receiving the complaints, authorities initiated a multi-angle investigation. Senior officers stated that such acts aim to spread fear among public representatives and disrupt the law-and-order environment.
Officials assured that strict action will be taken and that no one attempting to intimidate elected representatives will be spared.
Accused to Be Arrested Soon: SP
Reassuring the public, SP Sihal said:
“We have identified the mobile number as well as the person who made the calls. The accused will be arrested very soon. Strong action will be taken to ensure incidents like this do not recur.”
The case has triggered strong reactions in the region, with demands for increased security and swift punishment for the perpetrator.
