Patna Zoo’s Toy Train to Resume Operations: Rs 5.81 Crore Boost for New Engine and Route

Patna: Visitors to Bihar’s capital now have a reason to rejoice as the toy train at Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park (Patna Zoo) is set to run again after being non-operational for several years. The Nitish Kumar-led state government has approved a budget of ₹5.81 crore for this project, promising an enhanced experience for zoo-goers.

Infrastructure Work to Be Undertaken by Danapur Rail Division
The Danapur division of East Central Railway has been entrusted with constructing the tracks and infrastructure required for safe operations of the toy train. The approved budget will cover not only the train tracks but also bridge retaining walls, drainage systems, and other essential structural works. The service was previously suspended in 2015 due to technical glitches and repeated derailment incidents.

3.7-Kilometre Track to Cover Major Zoo Attractions
The new route is designed keeping children in mind, who often missed the train ride in the past. The 3.7-kilometre track will start at Children’s Station and pass through Hyena Enclosure, Zoo Hospital, Feeding Depot, as well as the cages of lions, tigers, bears, and finally the aviary.

Modern, Eco-Friendly Features of the Toy Train
The train will have four carriages, each capable of seating 20–30 passengers. It will be powered by a modern, battery-operated engine, ensuring eco-friendly operations and minimal impact on the environment. This initiative is expected to significantly enhance the zoo experience for visitors of all ages.
