Patna Zoo is undergoing a remarkable transformation with an extensive landscaping project covering 15,000 square feet of its premises. The beautification initiative introduces 37 new plant species, including the special Buddha Bamboo imported from Hyderabad, which will be a major highlight of the redesigned garden areas.
A Fresh Green Look for Visitors
As the zoo prepares for the surge in winter tourists, several upgrades have been made along the main visitor route. Tourists entering from Gate No. 2 towards Gate No. 1 will now be greeted by lush carpet grass lining the pathways. Decorative plants are being planted around animal enclosures to enhance the visual appeal and create a more natural and refreshing environment.
The newly added Buddha Bamboo is being used to create aesthetic mounds in flower beds, adding a distinct visual charm to the landscape.
Zoo Management Speaks
According to officials, the project is being carried out under the guidance of Principal Secretary Anand Kishor, who recommended filling empty spaces across the campus with greenery. Authorities believe the landscaping efforts will help reduce dust levels and significantly improve the overall air quality inside the zoo.
A total of 37 plant species have been sourced from Hyderabad and Hajipur. The redevelopment includes wide expanses covered with grass as well as smaller decorative landscaped zones filled with soil and ornamental plants.
Diverse Species to Enrich the Zoo’s Green Cover
Hundreds of plants are being planted across 50 designated spots, including species such as Aquifa, Aglonema, Anthurium, Aralia, Dracaena, Golden Bush, Coleus, and Hibiscus Victory. Five varieties of Dracaena have been added, along with two types of turf—Mexican grass and Selection One grass.
In addition to greenery, a new 30×10 square meter structure is also being constructed as part of the redevelopment. Zoo authorities expect that the upgraded landscape will offer visitors a more attractive and refreshing experience, while also promoting a cleaner and greener habitat for both guests and wildlife.
Patna Zoo’s new look is set to become a major attraction this season, drawing nature lovers, families, and tourists alike.
