Patna Traffic Routes Altered for 4 Days to Manage New Year Crowds – Commuters Advised to Plan Ahead

In anticipation of large crowds during New Year celebrations, Patna Traffic Police have announced a special four-day traffic and parking plan effective from January 1 to January 4, 2026. The plan aims to ensure smooth vehicular movement and public safety around Gandhi Maidan and other busy areas in the city.

Restrictions on Autos and E-Rickshaws

To prevent congestion near Gandhi Maidan, all commercial vehicles, particularly autos and e-rickshaws, will be restricted from entering the area. Autos and e-rickshaws coming from Danapur towards Rajapur Pul will be diverted back at Police Line Tiraha. Vehicles approaching from Gayghat via Ashok Rajpath will be sent back from the western end of Double Decker Flyover at Cargill Chowk.

Roads with Restricted Vehicle Movement

  • Autos and e-rickshaws will not be allowed from Bhattacharya Chowk via Exhibition Road to North Gandhi Maidan.
  • From SP Verma Road, autos can proceed only up to Swami Nandan Tiraha and must return via Bata Mod.
  • Movement will also be restricted on Buddh Marg/Chajjubag to TN Banerjee Path, Kotwali Tiraha to Police Line Tiraha, and Police Line Gate No.1 to Bank Road.

Special Measures for Bari Path and Bailey Road

  • On Bari Path, vehicles may move only from Machhua Toli to Thakur Bari Mod and must return; entry to Gandhi Maidan or Bakarganj will be prohibited.
  • On Bailey Road, autos and e-rickshaws will be stopped near east of Dumra Chowki if heavy traffic develops and redirected either toward Patna Airport or required to take a U-turn.

Private Vehicle Restrictions

Private vehicles (except official and government vehicles) will not be allowed beyond Circular Road or Karpuri Golambar towards Eco Park. These vehicles will be diverted via Lalit Bhavan to reach their destinations.

Designated Parking Areas

To prevent traffic jams, specific parking zones have been set up:

  • Bihar Museum Lane (Bailey Road): One lane open for parking, other lane restricted.
  • Gandhi Maidan: Extra parking for visitors to City Center Mall.
  • JP Ganga Path: Queued parking in one flank if crowds swell.
  • Taramandal & ISKCON Temple: Multi-level smart parking available.
  • Buddha Smriti Park: Parking along eastern wall and designated multi-level zones.
  • Eco Park: Organized parking on both sides of Atal Path.

High-Security Zones

  • Zoo Gate No.1 and Rajvansh Nagar Hanuman Mandir: Roadside parking prohibited; drivers advised to use Veterinary College open grounds.
  • Kumhrar Park main roads: On-road parking restricted; vehicles may be lined up in available open areas.
