Patna Teen Girl Falls from Fourth Floor; Family Spots Injuries, Sparks Investigation

Patna, Bihar: A tragic incident in Patna’s Phulwarisharif area has left the city shaken. A 16-year-old girl, attending a coaching center on the first floor of Sumitra Heights Apartment in Harinagar, fell from the fourth-floor balcony under suspicious circumstances. Initially considered an accident, the case took a serious turn when her family noticed injuries on her body just before the funeral. They allege that she may have been assaulted and, in trying to escape, fell—or was pushed—from the balcony.

Family Discovers Shocking Evidence
After the girl’s death, the coaching center operator claimed she had fallen due to dizziness. However, the truth emerged when her body was taken for cremation. The family found marks and bruises on her back, waist, and head, raising suspicion of foul play. They returned to the apartment to investigate further.

The apartment management initially resisted showing CCTV footage, but after police intervention, the recordings were reviewed. The footage revealed two young men following the girl moments before the fall.

Immediate Response and Investigation
According to coaching operator Rupesh Kumar, students informed him that someone was lying unconscious below. Upon reaching the scene, he saw the apartment guard trying to revive the girl by pressing on her face and nose. She was immediately taken to AIIMS, where she was declared dead. The delay in informing the police further fueled suspicion. The coaching center had moved to this apartment from Khagaul just two months prior.

Four People Taken into Custody
Based on the CCTV evidence, police have taken four suspects into custody, including the young men seen following her. The girl’s family also handed over a young man working as a carpenter in the same flat for questioning. The apartment guard is also being interrogated.

The balcony from which the girl fell was part of an unoccupied flat undergoing construction. Investigators recovered one of her sandals near the scene. Police are examining whether the incident was suicide, an accident, or a premeditated murder, relying on scientific and CCTV evidence.
