Patna: In a major move to reduce traffic congestion and curb encroachments, the district administration of Patna has announced a new schedule for fruit and vegetable vendors across the city. Effective 1st December 2025, street vendors will be allowed to sell their goods only between 5 AM to 8 AM and 8 PM to 10 PM in designated areas. Vendors failing to comply with the timings will be subject to fines.
Order from Divisional Commissioner
Acting on directives from Divisional Commissioner Animesh Kumar Parashar, Patna DM Tyagarajan S.M. and SSP Kartikey Sharma have issued strict orders and formed nine special teams to clear encroachments in priority areas. This multi-agency campaign will be implemented across six zones of Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC)—Nutan Rajdhani, Patliputra, Kankarbagh, Bankipur, Azimabad, Patna City—as well as Khagol, Phulwarisharif, and Danapur municipal areas.
DM’s Statement
The DM stated that officials have been instructed to identify habitual encroachers, take punitive action, and register FIRs against repeat violators. The traffic police will also conduct special vehicle inspection drives during the campaign. Officials have been directed to maintain meaningful dialogue with all stakeholders and ensure that the public’s convenience is not compromised.
Municipal Corporation Campaign
The campaign, jointly conducted by the municipal corporation and traffic police, includes on-the-spot fines and collections. Priority areas for the enforcement drive include:
- GPO to Patna Junction Golambar
- Boring Road Chowk to Rajapur Bridge Vegetable Market
- Kankarbagh Colony to Chirayataand Bridge via Karbigahia
- Gandhi Maidan, Hathua Market, and Bariya Bus Stand
- Pahadi, Zero Mile, Metro Station, and Kangan Ghat areas
- Harmandir Sahib, Ballila, and Guru ke Bagh areas
These locations experience high daily crowds and traffic jams, and the administration aims to remove all illegal encroachments by the end of December to ensure smooth pedestrian movement and ease congestion.
