Patna Security Guard Uses Entire Salary to Feed the Hungry: Story of Kumar Vinay’s Compassion

Patna: The story of Kumar Vinay, a security guard in Patna, has captured hearts across Bihar for his extraordinary compassion. During the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, Vinay witnessed the devastating human toll firsthand while working at the emergency ward of a local hospital. The daily sight of patients struggling for life and families mourning their loved ones deeply affected him, prompting a life-changing decision.

From Witnessing Death to Feeding the Hungry

Vinay, originally from Bhojpur district, earned just ₹8,000 per month at the time. Despite his modest income, he began using his salary to feed the hungry, preparing 21 food packets every day and distributing them to the needy. “I had no savings. I felt it was God’s calling to help people,” he recalled.

Initially, his family opposed the idea. His wife and children were concerned about the financial strain. However, over time, they came to support his mission, recognizing the joy and dignity it brought to those in need.

Growing Support for His Mission

Today, Vinay’s initiative has attracted support from friends, well-wishers, and local business owners. Narendra Kumar Pappu, a local caterer, said, “Whenever possible, I contribute to Kumar Vinay’s work. People also donate on birthdays, anniversaries, or just to support his cause. It brings immense happiness.”

Despite personal challenges, including his wife Savita Devi’s kidney problems, Vinay continues his mission. He now works as a security guard at an automobile company’s office, earning ₹14,000 per month, while his children assist with household expenses. His daughter Sheetal works as an area manager in a government bank, and his son Saurabh is a manager in a private bank.

Where the Food Reaches

Vinay ensures the food reaches the most vulnerable, including the elderly and differently-abled. Every day, he purchases food packets at ₹40 each from a kiosk in Kankarbagh and distributes them at Patna Junction, Panch Mandir, Kankarbagh, and Bansghat Mandir.

“Determination and a big heart always find a way,” Vinay says. His story stands as a testament to how compassion and empathy can transform ordinary lives into extraordinary ones, even in the toughest times.
