Patna, Bihar: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has intensified its probe into the suspicious death of a NEET student at a Patna hostel. As part of the investigation, the CBI summoned Sub-Inspector (SI) Reena Kumari of Chitragupt Nagar Police Station for nearly three hours of questioning. Several other police officers may also be called for interrogation in the coming days.
Who is SI Reena Kumari?
Reena Kumari was serving as the second-in-command (Second SHO) at Chitragupt Nagar Police Station. After the then Station In-Charge Roshni Kumari was suspended for alleged lapses, SI Reena Kumari took over the investigation of the NEET student’s death. She examined the case files, reviewed evidence, and coordinated with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) at the station level.
Given her detailed knowledge of the case, the CBI sought her account of events from the day of the incident until the handover of the investigation. Sources indicate that the CBI is compiling a list of officers involved in the initial monitoring of the case, and Reena Kumari’s testimony is considered critical in determining any lapses in the early stages of the investigation.
CBI Probing Evidence Handling and Police Lapses
The NEET student’s death occurred at Shambhu Girls’ Hostel, under the jurisdiction of Chitragupt Nagar. Initially, the investigation was overseen by Station In-Charge Roshni Kumari, who was later suspended for alleged negligence. After her suspension, SI Reena Kumari assumed control and coordinated with the SIT, handling case diaries, onsite evidence, and all critical developments.
The CBI is scrutinizing whether there were any manipulations of evidence or deliberate attempts to protect influential individuals. Officers involved in the preparation of early reports after the student’s death are being questioned to ascertain the accuracy and integrity of the investigation.
Wider Interrogations Likely
CBI sources indicate that this is only the beginning. In the coming days, officers such as SI Komal Kumari from Kadambkua Police Station, Raghvendra Kumar, and Vipul Kumar may also be summoned for questioning. Separate CBI teams will cross-verify statements to uncover the truth behind the student’s suspicious death and to identify any procedural lapses within the Patna Police.
The ongoing interrogations have reportedly created unease within the Patna police department, highlighting the scrutiny of initial investigative lapses.
