Patna NEET Student Case: Family Questions SIT’s DNA Notice Even After CBI Recommendation

Jehanabad, Bihar: The family of a NEET aspirant who died under mysterious circumstances in Patna has raised serious questions against the Special Investigation Team (SIT), which has reportedly issued them notices for DNA testing. The family claims that the SIT is attempting to divert the course of the investigation, even after the state government recommended the case be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The student, a resident of Jehanabad, was found unconscious on January 6 at Shambhu Girls Hostel in Chitragupt Nagar, Patna. After spending several days in a coma, she passed away on January 11 at a private hospital. The family alleged sexual assault and accused officials of trying to suppress the case. Subsequently, a hostel staff member was arrested. Following this, the state government recommended that the CBI take over the investigation. However, despite the recommendation on January 31, the central agency has not yet assumed control of the case.

Family Protests Against SIT’s Move
A family member told the media on Tuesday, “Late Monday night, SIT officials arrived at the uncle’s house of the deceased with a DNA testing notice and compelled him to accept it. News of the SIT’s visit quickly spread in the village, and other relatives refused to open their doors.” The official SIT team reportedly attempted to serve notices to other relatives as well, but village residents gathered in protest, forcing the team to leave.

Family Questions SIT Authority Post-CBI Recommendation
The family further stated that SIT officials also visited the maternal uncle’s village in Makhdumpur to issue notices, but the family refused to cooperate. “The state government recently informed the Bihar Assembly that the investigation has been handed over to the CBI. Then why is the SIT harassing the family in the name of investigation? They have no authority to issue notices once the case is under the CBI,” a family member alleged, calling it a deliberate attempt to intimidate and humiliate them.

Judicial Investigation Sought
The family has demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident, stating that the entire village would cooperate for DNA testing if directed by a court. Meanwhile, senior police officials in Patna have remained unavailable for comment despite repeated attempts by the media.
