Patna Municipal Corporation to Buy Old Laptops, ACs and Other E-Waste at Attractive Rates

Patna:
Patna residents can now turn their old, unused electronic items into cash. The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has launched a new initiative to purchase old laptops, mobile phones, air conditioners, refrigerators, and other household electronic waste to promote proper e-waste management and protect the environment.

Officials from PMC said the move aims to prevent the hazardous effects of improper disposal of e-waste, which contains harmful elements like lead, mercury, and cadmium that can pollute soil, water, and air. Under the initiative, collected e-waste will be sent to authorised recycling agencies rather than being discarded with regular household trash.

Rates for Electronic Items

The Municipal Corporation has fixed attractive rates based on the category of electronic equipment:

  • Laptop, Tablet, Notepad: ₹150 per kg
  • Complete CPU set: ₹140 per kg
  • CPU Box: ₹85 per kg
  • LED Monitor: ₹35 per kg
  • Keyboard: ₹20 per kg
  • Split AC (Copper): ₹100 per kg
  • Window AC (Copper): ₹80 per kg
  • UPS / Inverter: ₹60 per kg
  • Washing Machine / Microwave: ₹30 per kg
  • Refrigerator: ₹20 per kg
  • Fan / Mixer Grinder: ₹10 per kg

Awareness Campaign to Begin in February

To educate citizens about responsible e-waste disposal, the PMC will organise four on-ground awareness sessions across the city starting the second week of February. Each session will last approximately 45 minutes and cover safe collection, handling, and disposal practices.

The initiative is part of PMC’s broader goal to curb one of the fastest-growing types of urban waste while encouraging citizens to participate actively in environmental protection.
