Patna Municipal Corporation Declares 500 People as ‘City Enemies’, Collects ₹2.5 Lakh in Fines

Patna, Bihar: In a major cleanliness drive, the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has declared 500 people as ‘city enemies’ over the past four days for littering and spitting in public spaces. Each offender was fined ₹500, amounting to a total collection of ₹2.5 lakh.

The campaign aims to make the state capital cleaner and improve its ranking in national cleanliness surveys. PMC officials said the action is part of a broader initiative to curb public spitting and garbage disposal in crowded areas, major roads, intersections, and other public places.

Strict Measures and Public Awareness:
Yashpal Meena, Commissioner and Managing Director of Patna Smart City Limited, explained that many people chew paan, gutkha, or tobacco and spit indiscriminately, while others litter, making the city unhygienic and increasing the risk of disease. “The campaign has begun without any laxity. Offenders are being identified on the spot and penalized immediately,” he said.

Officials warned that repeat offenders would face public exposure, with their photographs and names displayed on VMD screens across the city.

Technology to Aid Enforcement:
The PMC has installed approximately 3,300 CCTV cameras at 415 locations to monitor the campaign. Authorities say the initiative will not only curb the creation of ‘red’ and ‘yellow’ spots across the city but also play a decisive role in improving Patna’s ranking in cleanliness surveys.

The campaign underlines Patna’s commitment to maintaining a cleaner, safer, and healthier urban environment for its residents.
