Patna Metro Expansion: Service Up to Malahi Pakri by February, Meethapur by August

Patna Metro commuters have good news as the city’s metro network is set to expand further. The Patna Metro Rail Corporation (PMRC) aims to extend operations from the New Patliputra Bus Terminal (ISBT) to Meethapur by August 2026. To facilitate this, a three-coach train from Pune will be leased, and the Khemnichak Interchange Station is expected to be ready by the same time.

Metro Coverage to Expand to Meethapur

Currently, the metro operates over a 2.9 km stretch. By August, this will expand to 9.322 km, significantly enhancing connectivity. To address resource constraints, PMRC has initiated the process to lease a metro rake from Pune, similar to arrangements made for existing operations. While the extension is expected to reach Malahi Pakri by February, August will be the decisive month when the corridor reaches Meethapur, connecting the city’s bus terminal to major urban hubs.

Once operational up to Meethapur, a large part of Corridor-1 will be functional. Presently, passengers can travel only up to Bhutnath station. After the extension, areas like Jaganpura and Ramkrishna Nagar will also gain access to metro services. Elevated stations connected to the depot are being developed with modern commuter amenities.

February Target: Malahi Pakri

The 6.107 km stretch from Bhutnath to Malahi Pakri is expected to be operational by February. However, a technical hurdle remains: Khemnichak Station’s entry and exit gates are not yet ready, meaning trains will not stop there initially. By August, when the third phase up to Meethapur begins, Khemnichak will be fully operational, allowing passengers to board and alight. The station will feature two levels and serve as a key interchange hub.

Interchange Station to Ensure Seamless Connectivity

Khemnichak is being developed as a major interchange where Corridor-1 and Corridor-2 lines will converge. Though Corridor-1 is elevated, both lines will align at the station level for easy transfer. From here, passengers will be able to switch to trains heading towards Ford Hospital, Gyan Ganga, and the New Patliputra Bus Terminal. A crossover under construction near the National Highway will facilitate smooth train turns and traffic management.

With these upgrades, Patna Metro’s expansion promises faster, smoother, and more accessible travel for city residents, marking a major milestone in the city’s public transport infrastructure.
