Patna: The district administration of Bihar’s capital is taking major steps to ease traffic congestion around Patna Junction, one of the city’s busiest hubs. A new traffic management plan has been prepared in collaboration with the traffic police, aimed at ensuring smooth movement of vehicles and reducing chronic jams in the area. The plan came into effect on 1st December 2025.
New Traffic Measures
Under the new system, all public and commercial vehicles—including auto-rickshaws, e-rickshaws, and taxis—are completely banned from entering the station premises. Only private vehicles will be allowed access to the station building and platforms.
Vehicles approaching Patna Junction from Kankarbagh will now use the Chirayataand Flyover, proceed via GPO Chowk and R-Block Chowk, and drop or pick up passengers at the newly designated multi-modal hub. Auto-rickshaws returning towards Kankarbagh will exit via the multi-level hub, pass in front of Platform No. 4, head towards GPO and R-Block Chowks, and finally merge onto the Chirayataand Flyover.
Additionally, auto and e-rickshaw traffic is now strictly prohibited on both sides of Exhibition Road. A no-parking zone has been enforced from Patna Junction Chowk to the GPO Chowk to prevent obstruction.
Municipal Authorities’ Decision
This initiative follows a joint inspection by Patna Municipal Commissioner Yashpal Meena, Senior Superintendent of Police Kartikey Sharma, Traffic SP Vaibhav Sharma, and other senior officials. Authorities have urged citizens, passengers, and drivers to strictly follow the new routes and parking regulations. They have warned that violators will face strict penalties starting 1st December.
With this comprehensive reorganization, the administration aims to restore order around one of Bihar’s busiest railway stations and ensure smooth, congestion-free movement for thousands of daily commuters.
