PATNA: The investigation into the Patna hostel NEET student death case has taken a startling turn, as Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kartikeya K. Sharma revealed crucial details during a press conference. According to the SSP, the deceased student had been searching online for cyanide and sleeping pills, shedding light on her mental state prior to her untimely death.
Family Initially Hesitant to File FIR
SSP Sharma stated that the student’s family initially avoided filing a police complaint. “The case was registered only after the hospital provided information, prompting the police to initiate an investigation,” he explained. The case has now been handed over to the CBI by the Bihar government for further investigation.
Timeline of Events
The NEET aspirant was found unconscious in her hostel room on 6 January 2026 in Patna. She was admitted to a private hospital, where she tragically passed away on 11 January 2026. The family has alleged sexual harassment and accused authorities of attempting to cover up the incident, sparking widespread outrage.
Diary and Mobile Phone Reveal Mental State
The SSP highlighted that investigators recovered both a diary and a mobile phone from the student’s room. Forensic examination of her phone revealed that on 24 December 2025, she had searched the internet for cyanide and sleeping pills. Analysis of her diary provided further insight into her mental state and personal struggles, which the CBI is now using as a basis for their ongoing probe.
The revelation adds a critical dimension to the case, intensifying scrutiny on the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of the NEET student.
