Patna Hostel Tragedy: Justice for the Daughter of Jehanabad! Who is Behind the Attempt to Suppress the Case?

Jehanabad, Bihar: The death of a young NEET student from Jehanabad at a Patna hospital has sparked outrage, as the post-mortem report contradicts initial police claims and raises serious questions. Prashant Kishor, founder of the Jan Suraj Party, has also demanded urgent justice for the victim.

Kishor visited the grieving family in Jehanabad on Friday, expressing solidarity and emphasizing that the girl must receive justice. He criticized the handling of the case, saying, “The post-mortem report indicates that sexual assault cannot be ruled out. An independent and thorough investigation is now essential.”

Timeline of Events

5 January 2026: The girl from Shakurbad, Jehanabad, left for her hostel. She reached safely and informed her family via phone, appearing perfectly healthy.

6 January 2026: Her father received alarming news that his daughter had collapsed unconscious at the hostel. The hostel caretaker admitted her to a clinic. The family immediately rushed from Jehanabad to Patna, where she was admitted to a major hospital, still in a coma. Despite medical efforts, she was declared dead.

9 January 2026: The Chitragupt Nagar police station in Patna received the case, filed not by the hostel management but by the girl’s father. His FIR clearly suspected sexual assault and mentioned visible injuries on her body and head.

11 January 2026: Patna City ASP Abhinav Kumar initially claimed that no sexual assault had occurred. The police attributed her condition to an overdose of sleeping pills and fever.

11–12 January 2026: The ASP’s statement sparked outrage on social media and public protests. People, including the victim’s family, staged demonstrations at Patna’s Cargill Chowk, demanding justice. In response, the police decided to conduct a post-mortem through a medical board.

13 January 2026: SSP Kartikeya Sharma publicly stated that no sexual assault had occurred, citing doctors’ reports—though the post-mortem had not yet been completed. The family alleged that the police made statements before even reviewing the post-mortem report.

16 January 2026: The post-mortem report was finally released, confirming that sexual assault cannot be ruled out. Following this, the police arrested hostel owner Manish Kumar Ranjan and sent the report to AIIMS for final verification.

Lingering Questions on Police and Hostel Conduct

  1. Who opened the room where the girl was found unconscious, and when?
  2. Why did the hostel management inform the family instead of the police immediately?
  3. How did her health deteriorate so rapidly from being fine on 5 January to comatose by 6 January?
  4. Why did the police initially attribute the case to an overdose of sleeping pills despite the FIR suggesting sexual assault?
  5. How could the police publicly dismiss sexual assault before the post-mortem report was even available?

These questions point to potential negligence—or worse—and leave a shadow over the tragic death of Jehanabad’s young student, raising fears of a cover-up.
