Patna Girls Hostel Case: Family Questions SIT Probe After FSL Report, Highlights Role of Witness Woman

Patna: In the aftermath of the tragic incident at Shambhu Girls Hostel in Bihar’s capital, the families of the students have raised serious concerns over the ongoing investigation. On Sunday, the belongings of hostel residents, including laptops, bedsheets, books, and other items, were returned to them in the presence of a magistrate, except for the room of the deceased NEET aspirant. Families stated that the hostel had become unlivable following the incident, with many students preparing for intermediate exams starting February 2. Students had earlier protested to regain access to their belongings.

Family Meets DGP Over Investigation Concerns

On Saturday, the family of the deceased NEET student met DGP Vinay Kumar, demanding a fair and impartial investigation. They alleged that interrogation of the arrested hostel owner, Manish Ranjan, on remand could have uncovered the full circumstances of the incident. Instead, the police have repeatedly visited Jehanabad to question the family members, creating a perception that the family itself is being treated as suspects.

FSL Report Raises Questions About SIT Probe

Following the FSL report, which confirmed evidence of sexual assault and the presence of semen stains on the deceased’s clothing, the family has questioned the effectiveness of the Special Investigation Team (SIT). The victim’s father stated that if justice is not delivered, he may be compelled to consider extreme steps, while also demanding a judicial inquiry under the supervision of the Supreme Court or High Court.

Role of Witness Woman Highlighted

The family revealed that a woman who brought the student to the hospital had informed authorities that something had gone wrong with the student. Despite this, the police have maintained silence on her role. The DGP assured the family of an impartial investigation.

Legal Proceedings and POCSO Act Application

As the victim was found to be under 18 years of age, the police have initiated procedures to add sections under the POCSO Act to the FIR. The SIT requested age-related documents, which the family provided, including the Aadhaar card and matriculation certificate. Based on these, the police will move the case to a POCSO special court, ensuring that legal proceedings follow the framework designed to protect minors in sexual assault cases.
