The Nitish Kumar government is set to deliver a major infrastructural boost to Bihar with the launch of JP Ganga Path Phase-2, a high-speed corridor that will cut travel time between Patna and Buxar and connect the capital directly with five major Ganga bridges. Vehicles will be able to cruise at 100 kmph on this new stretch, ensuring a smooth, congestion-free journey.
Construction of JP Ganga Path Phase-2 Begins January 2026
According to Bihar State Road Development Corporation (BSRDC), construction for the 35.65 km-long expansion from Digha to Koilwar will commence by January-end.
The project is valued at ₹5,500 crore, of which:
- 60% (₹3,300 crore) will be funded by the executing agency
- 40% (₹2,200 crore) will be provided by the state government
The expansion includes an 18 km elevated road, making it one of the most ambitious road projects in Bihar.
A senior BSRDC official confirmed that a Hyderabad-based agency had already been selected before the Model Code of Conduct came into effect. Land acquisition is underway: only 6% of land is available, with the remaining 94% being handed over post-acquisition. Work is expected to start by January 2026.
What JP Ganga Path Phase-2 Will Connect
The new corridor will link:
- Digha (Patna)
- Sherpur
- Koilwar (over the Son river bridge)
Construction is to be completed within four years, after which the agency will maintain the road for 15 years. The government will repay the agency’s 60% share with interest over the same period. Maintenance cost will be additional and fixed later.
Direct Link to Five Ganga Bridges
BSRDC officials revealed that Phase-2 will directly connect to five major Ganga bridges, significantly improving regional mobility:
- Digha Bridge
- Sherpur–Dighwara Bridge
- Veer Kunwar Singh Ganga Bridge
- Janeshwar Mishra Ganga Setu
- Buxar–Ghazipur Ganga Bridge
Additionally, it will also connect to the Koilwar Bridge over the Son river.
Residents of Danapur and Shahpur Diara will get special access routes during construction to minimize inconvenience.
Patna to Buxar at 100 kmph — Faster Travel to Delhi & UP
Once completed, the new JP Ganga Path extension will allow commuters to travel from Patna to Buxar at speeds up to 100 kmph.
This will:
- Reduce travel time drastically
- Provide seamless access to the Purvanchal Expressway, making Delhi travel faster
- Improve connectivity to Ballia, Ghazipur, Mau, Azamgarh, Deoria, Gorakhpur, and several districts of Uttar Pradesh
The project is expected to transform road travel for millions of people and boost trade, logistics, and interstate connectivity.
