Patna, Bihar: In a strong show of administrative action, the Patna district administration, under the directives of DM Tyagarajan S.M., launched a city-wide anti-encroachment drive at the start of December. The operation led to the removal of numerous temporary structures along public roads, and fines amounting to ₹59,800 were collected from violators.
The drive targeted street vendors, wooden counters, and makeshift setups occupying public spaces, aiming to ensure smooth traffic flow and free access to public areas. The operation saw participation from multiple agencies, including the District Administration, Patna Municipal Corporation, Traffic Police, Transport Department, Revenue Department, PWD, Health, Fire Department, Bridge Construction Corporation, Telecommunications, Forest Department, and Electricity Department.
FIRs to Follow for Repeat Offenders
DM Tyagarajan instructed officials to maintain strict surveillance and conduct regular reviews. Sub-Divisional Officers (SDOs) and Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs) were directed to personally monitor the operations and deploy follow-up teams round the clock to prevent re-encroachments. “Habitual encroachers must be identified, and in cases of repeated violations at cleared locations, FIRs should be filed without exception,” the DM emphasized.
Operations Across the City
- New Capital Circle: A four-hour drive cleared temporary encroachments along Bir Chand Patel Path and Vikas Bhavan-Magistrate Road, seizing six carts and two wooden counters, and imposing fines totaling ₹2,000.
- Patliputra Circle: Encroachments around Patna Museum, Police Line, Gyan Bhavan, Kargil Chowk, and Bankipur Club were cleared, including 20 temporary shanties, one wooden cart, and one wooden platform. A fine of ₹2,500 was collected.
