Patna: A shocking incident of indiscipline and violence occurred aboard the Tejas Express at Patna Junction. A middle-aged passenger allegedly slapped a young nurse who was feeling unwell over a minor dispute regarding a middle berth. When her elderly uncle intervened, he was brutally assaulted as well. The Railway Police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.
Dispute Over Middle Berth Leads to Assault
The incident took place on 18 December. Braj Kishore Singh (67), a retired Commercial Superintendent of Indian Railways from Shahi Colony, Hajipur, accompanied his niece, a nurse from Haryana, to board the Tejas Express to Delhi. She had a reserved middle berth in coach B-1 and was feeling unwell during the journey.
As the nurse tried to rest and lifted the middle berth chain, a 45-year-old passenger sitting on the lower berth objected. He forcibly pulled down the chain and reportedly slapped the young nurse when she protested. When Braj Kishore Singh attempted to intervene, the passenger attacked him as well, striking his face and chest multiple times, causing injuries and bleeding from his hand.
RPF Inaction Allows Accused to Flee
The victims immediately contacted the railway helpline 139, but according to reports, while the RPF personnel arrived at the scene, they allegedly failed to take strict action, allowing the accused to escape. Due to the chaotic situation and lack of immediate assistance, the nurse and her uncle disembarked and postponed their journey.
Railway Police Respond
Patna Junction Station House Officer, Rajesh Kumar Sinha, stated that the accused passenger left his seat and fled. He has been identified as Rohit Kumar, though his exact residence is under investigation. The GRP has registered a case, and efforts are ongoing to locate the accused.
