Pappu Yadav Claims Arrest Linked to Patna Girls Hostel Scandal, Alleges Conspiracy

Patna: Purnia MP Pappu Yadav was arrested past midnight on Friday in a 32-year-old case. The MP has alleged that his detention is a consequence of his recent statements regarding the Patna Girls Hostel incident, calling it a premeditated act of retaliation.

Claims of Retaliation
Pappu Yadav, taken into custody from his Mandiri residence, said the police action was not solely due to the decades-old case, but rather due to the revelations and public statements he made about the Patna Girls Hostel scandal. “I have been raising the voices of victims, and now there is an attempt to silence me. I fear for my safety,” he said. Following a deterioration in his health, he was shifted from IGIMS to PMCH for medical care.

Patna Girls Hostel Case
Over the past month, Yadav had been speaking out extensively on the Shambhu Girls Hostel case, which occurred on 6 January. He was arrested under a court order on 6 February related to a 1995 case concerning the rental and subsequent occupation of a house in Patna, which had led to his bail being canceled.

Support from Chandrashekhar Azad
Chandrashekhar Azad, National President of the Azad Samaj Party and MP from Nagina, extended his support to Yadav. Sharing a video on social media, Azad wrote:
“The midnight arrest of Purnia’s popular MP Pappu Yadav is a clear display of the NDA government in Bihar’s politics of fear, suppression, and revenge. Those in power, intimidated by public questions, target leaders in the dead of night. This is not the rule of law, but the arrogance of power. Targeting a leader even amid illness exposes the government’s insensitivity and cruelty. The people of Bihar understand this. The fight against dictatorship will intensify.”

Alleged Property Dispute
In media interactions, Yadav expressed fear over the police action, claiming that officers in plain clothes arrived at his home and attempted to take him directly to the station instead of presenting him in court. The original case dates back to 1995, when he allegedly rented a house in Patna and converted it into a party office, leading the property owner to file an FIR against him. The cancellation of his bail in that case provided the basis for his arrest.
