Umaria, Madhya Pradesh: Panic broke out at Kalda High School in Umaria district when about 11 students suddenly began exhibiting unusual behavior. Parents believed the incidents were caused by a “supernatural influence” and sought ritual cleansing at a local temple, while the Education Department has called a team of doctors to investigate the matter.
The strange events began three days ago when two students reportedly started acting erratically in class, dancing outside the classroom with their hair let loose. The school administration was shocked and immediately informed the parents. Family members took the students to the temple, where a local priest performed ritual cleansing, reportedly restoring them to normal.
Situation Persists Despite Interventions
Despite initial interventions, the incidents continued on the second day with a few more students exhibiting similar behavior. On the third day, around 10–11 students displayed the same behavior. A video of the event circulated widely on social media, further alarming the community. Parents took the students to Mahoba Dadar Temple, located on a nearby hill, where the priest performed the rituals, after which all students reportedly recovered.
School Authorities Confirm the Incidents
The school’s acting principal, Suraj Lal Marabi, confirmed the events. “Initially, two students experienced this behavior. Their parents arranged ritual cleansing, and they were fine. On the second day, three or four more students were affected, and the same ritual was performed. On the third day, 10–11 students were affected, so all were taken to the Mahoba Dadar temple for purification. All students are now fine, though it is possible some supernatural influence was at play,” he said.
Education Department Responds
When contacted, R.S. Maravi, the district education officer, said, “I have received information and have just arrived at Kalda to assess the situation. A team of doctors has also been informed and is on the way. I cannot comment further at this stage.”
