Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh: A fresh political controversy has erupted in Chhindwara after BJP district president Sheshrao Yadav made a remark about the Brahmin community that has triggered widespread anger and protests. His statement, delivered at a Pal community event, has not only drawn sharp reactions from social organizations but has also caused unease within the BJP’s own ranks.
What Sheshrao Yadav Said
Addressing the gathering from the stage, Yadav reportedly said, “People from small communities come and sit over our heads.” He then went on to make a controversial comment about the Brahmin community, stating that their role should be limited to worship and imparting knowledge, while the right to run the government should rest with others.
In his speech, he further remarked that the “pandit” community wants to perform religious rituals, provide knowledge, and also keep political power in its own hands. These comments were made in the presence of Chhindwara MP Vivek “Bunty” Sahu, adding to the sensitivity of the matter.
Video Goes Viral, Anger Erupts
Soon after the event, a video clip of Yadav’s speech went viral on social media, sparking outrage among members of the Brahmin community and other sections of society. Protests were reported, and strong condemnation poured in from various quarters.
Sharp Reaction from Social Organizations
Office-bearers of Brahmin organizations termed the statement insulting and derogatory, accusing Yadav of attempting to demean a respected community. Community leaders said such language damages social harmony and fosters division among different groups.
Several social organizations jointly demanded that Sheshrao Yadav issue a public apology and that the BJP leadership take clear disciplinary action against him.
A History of Controversial Remarks
This is not the first time Sheshrao Yadav has landed in trouble over his statements. Earlier, he had been reprimanded by the BJP’s state president and general secretary in Bhopal over a controversial slogan. On that occasion too, party leaders had warned that such remarks were harming the party’s image. Political observers say Yadav’s repeated controversial comments are now becoming a serious internal concern for the BJP.
Silence from BJP Leadership
As of now, no official clarification has been issued by Sheshrao Yadav. The silence of BJP leaders at both the district and state levels has further fueled public discontent. Political circles believe the party leadership may soon take a clear stand on the issue.
