
New Delhi: In the wake of reports highlighting over 800 missing persons in the first half of January, the Delhi Police on Thursday sought to reassure the public, stating there is “no reason for panic or fear.” According to officials, these figures actually indicate a decline compared to the same period in previous years.
Details of the Missing Persons
Official data from Delhi Police, cited by PTI-Bhasha, shows that between 1st and 15th January, a total of 807 individuals were reported missing—averaging 54 cases per day. Of these, 509 were women and girls, and 298 were men. Among the missing persons, 191 were minors while 616 were adults. While exact monthly totals for January were not provided, the police emphasized that these numbers reflect a decrease in missing person cases compared to previous years.
Police Response and Transparency
Delhi Police stated that it strictly follows a transparent and impartial crime reporting policy. All complaints regarding missing persons are promptly registered and investigated. The police added that FIRs for missing persons can be filed not only at local police stations but also via online platforms and the emergency response system (112).
Standard Procedures in Place
The statement highlighted that all missing person cases are handled according to strict Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Immediate efforts are initiated to locate the individuals, with cases involving children receiving the highest priority.
Delhi Police reiterated that the public should remain calm and assured citizens that every effort is being made to trace missing individuals efficiently and effectively.
