Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh: The Ghaziabad Police Commissionerate is facing internal scrutiny after a report from Lucknow’s Social Media Cell flagged police officers actively creating social media reels in uniform to increase their fan following. Authorities are now preparing a list of over 200 such officers for potential disciplinary action.
Social Media Activity Under Scrutiny
Sources indicate that several police personnel in Ghaziabad have been using their official uniforms to post videos on platforms like Instagram and Facebook. Some have been seen portraying “Singham” characters, while others share selfies during patrols. Senior officials from Lucknow’s Social Media Cell have flagged this behavior as against police discipline and are urging immediate corrective measures.
CM Yogi’s Warning Ignored
The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath, had previously expressed displeasure over uniformed officers indulging in social media reels. Despite prior warnings, a significant number of officers continue to post reels, often going viral online.
Monitoring and Disciplinary Action
According to departmental sources, Ghaziabad Police have started monitoring over 200 social media accounts of officers actively posting content. Some officers have already faced action, and a new list of offenders is being prepared. Following the Lucknow report, all police stations have been instructed to audit their staff’s social media activity.
Senior officials have stated that officers found misusing police uniforms for social media content will be treated as violating discipline and will face strict action, including potential removal from the system. The coming days could see several officers being officially flagged and disciplinary proceedings initiated.
