Over 11,000 Vehicle Owners in Ghaziabad on Radar; Transport Department Gives 15-Day Ultimatum

Ghaziabad: The Transport Department of Ghaziabad has identified more than 11,000 commercial vehicle owners who have not paid road tax for the past five years or more. This prolonged negligence has caused the government a revenue loss of over ₹10 crore.

ARTO Ashok Kumar Srivastava issued a clear warning to defaulters, stating that strict legal action will be taken if the outstanding tax is not cleared within 15 days.

15-Day Deadline for Defaulters
The department has given all defaulting vehicle owners a final 15-day window to pay their dues. Failure to comply within this timeframe will result in the issuance of a Recovery Certificate (RC), which will be sent directly to the District Administration. Once this happens, the recovery process will begin, which may include seizure of vehicles, freezing of bank accounts, and in severe cases, imprisonment.

Relief for Scrap or Inactive Vehicles
The department clarified that vehicle owners whose vehicles are scrapped or have not been in use for a long time must contact the RTO office within 15 days to update their status. Often, taxes remain marked as unpaid because owners do not cancel the registration even after the vehicle is out of use or sold as scrap. Relief will be granted upon submission of the relevant documents.

List to be Submitted to DM Office
After the deadline, the list of over 11,000 defaulters will be submitted to the District Magistrate’s office. Once a Recovery Certificate is issued, strict action will follow. The department said the campaign is part of its efforts to prevent revenue loss and ensure compliance with the law.
