Over 100 Pigs Stolen Overnight in Karnataka Village; Police Arrest Key Accused

In a bizarre case of mass livestock theft, more than 110 pigs were stolen overnight from a village in Karnataka’s Chikkaballapur district. Shockingly, the thieves not only transported the animals in the dark of night but also managed to sell them before daybreak. Police have arrested one accused, while the search for four others is underway.

Accused Ran a Pig-Rearing Business While Stealing Animals

The arrested man has been identified as Anand, a resident of Lenin Nagar in Andhra Pradesh. Anand, who operated a pig-rearing business, was allegedly involved in stealing livestock to increase his profits.
The incident took place on November 5 in Burudugunte village of Chintamani taluk. Farmer Venkata Pati, who owned the pigs, had fed his herd the previous night. But when he returned to the sheds early next morning, he was stunned by the silence — all 110 pigs had vanished.

Local villagers searched for hours, but the herd was nowhere to be found. The farmer then lodged a complaint with the police.

Pigs Sold Before Sunrise

A special investigation team — led by Inspector Narayanaswamy and Sub-Inspector Jagadish — tracked the trail to Anantapur, where Anand was arrested. During interrogation, he confessed to the theft and revealed that he had four accomplices.

Anand told police that the stolen pigs had already been sold and that he had hidden the proceeds at his residence. A subsequent raid recovered ₹3 lakh in cash.

Hunt On for Remaining Accused and Vehicles

Police are now searching for the other four suspects and the vehicles used to transport more than a hundred pigs in a single night. The unusual scale of the theft has created widespread curiosity in the region.
