Jalaun (Uttar Pradesh):
An emotional moment unfolded during a public outreach programme (Jan Chaupal) in Jalaun district when an eight-year-old girl, Radhika, moved senior officials with her heartbreaking story and unshaken determination to become an officer one day.
The incident occurred in Kanjhari village of Rampura block, where district officials were conducting a Jan Chaupal to connect eligible beneficiaries with government welfare schemes. As the programme was underway, Radhika quietly stepped onto the stage and narrated her plight in a trembling voice.
She told officials that her mother had passed away and her father had abandoned her, leaving her alone and vulnerable at a very young age. Despite the hardships, Radhika expressed her dream of studying hard and becoming a senior government officer.
Her words deeply moved District Magistrate Rajesh Kumar Pandey and Superintendent of Police Dr. Durgesh Kumar, who were visibly emotional. Both officers invited Radhika to sit beside them on the stage. Addressing the gathering, the District Magistrate made a public announcement that the entire responsibility of Radhika’s education and essential expenses would be borne by the district administration.
“The administration will ensure that no obstacle comes in the way of Radhika’s education. Fulfilling her dream is now our collective responsibility,” the DM said.
Officials were immediately instructed to enroll Radhika under all relevant government schemes, including Bal Seva Yojana and Kanya Sumangala Yojana, to provide sustained financial and social support for her future.
Following the emotional interaction, the DM and SP conducted a door-to-door inspection of the village, reviewing the implementation of various welfare schemes such as housing, pensions, ration cards, Ayushman Bharat, Ujjwala Yojana and Swachh Bharat Mission. Wherever deficiencies were found, officials were directed to take immediate corrective action.
During the inspection, it was noted that the village lacked a playground for children. Taking serious note of this, the District Magistrate ordered the construction of a playground to be completed by March 31, 2026. Instructions were also issued for the beautification of the village pond, pathway development, and extensive plantation, aiming to improve both the quality of rural life and environmental sustainability.
The incident has been widely appreciated as a powerful example of administrative sensitivity and commitment toward child welfare and inclusive development.
