Opium Smuggling Network Exposed: Laborers Used from Rajasthan to Tamil Nadu

A major drug trafficking operation spanning from Rajasthan to Tamil Nadu has come to light, revealing that laborers are being exploited to transport narcotics across states. In Coimbatore, police confirmed the arrest of a laborer caught carrying opium under the pretext of work.

Jaipur: Drug smuggling cases in Rajasthan continue to rise, with law enforcement making a significant breakthrough in Tamil Nadu. In Coimbatore, authorities apprehended a laborer from Rajasthan carrying 10 grams of opium. The suspect, identified as Sunil Bishnoi from Jodhpur, was intercepted near Ravathur Pirivu in Sulur while transporting opium worth approximately ₹40,000.

Action Based on Tip-off by CIU Team

According to officials, the Coimbatore Central Intelligence Unit (CIU) received a tip-off about a person carrying opium. Based on the information, the team stopped Sunil and seized the contraband, which was divided into five packets of 2 grams each. The motorcycle used to transport the narcotic was also confiscated.

Investigation Underway, Multiple Leads Expected

During questioning, Sunil revealed that he was transporting opium from Rajasthan to Coimbatore at the instruction of a man named Umesh. He claimed that Umesh has coordinated with several other laborers to transport opium from Rajasthan to various other states, offering payment for their cooperation. Police have registered a case against Sunil under multiple sections of the NDPS Act, and the investigation is ongoing to track down Umesh and dismantle the trafficking network.
