Operation Wild Trap-2: Kanha Patrol Team Rescues Leopard Trapped in Iron Snare

Jabalpur

In a dramatic wildlife rescue at Kanha Tiger Reserve, a five-year-old male leopard was saved from a poacher’s iron snare after it became entangled near the Sejhora buffer zone. The incident occurred during Operation Wild Trap-2, when a patrolling team heard distress calls of a trapped animal and rushed to investigate.

The leopard was found struggling violently, caught in a trap set near the edge of a field in Beat Chatuakhar, compartment number 1438. Recognizing the danger to both the animal and the team, forest officials immediately alerted senior officers and wildlife veterinarian Dr. Sandeep Agrawal. The rescue team tranquilized the leopard to safely handle the situation without causing further injury.

Using cutters, the officials carefully removed the iron snare, freeing the distressed leopard. Preliminary health checks confirmed that the animal was a healthy five-year-old male. After a short period of observation, it was released safely back into the forest, much to the relief of local wildlife authorities.

The Kanha forest department has stepped up patrols following the incident and warned that strict action will be taken against poachers. Officials emphasized that the quick response and vigilance of the patrolling team not only saved a valuable wildlife life but also reinforced the ongoing efforts in wildlife conservation.

This rescue underscores the critical role of forest personnel and wildlife experts in protecting endangered species from illegal hunting and poaching.
