One More Arrest in Turkman Gate Violence Case, Area Put on High Alert

Delhi Police have arrested one more accused in connection with the stone-pelting incident that occurred near Turkman Gate during an anti-encroachment drive, taking the total number of arrests in the case to 12. The violence had erupted during a municipal corporation operation to remove encroachments near the Faiz-e-Ilahi Mosque.

According to police officials, the latest arrest was made on Friday. Additional Commissioner of Police (Central) Nidhin Valsan said that the accused has been identified as 36-year-old Mohammad Imran. “Further investigation is underway and strict security arrangements will remain in place in the area,” he said.

In view of the incident and Friday prayers, security was placed on high alert in Turkman Gate and surrounding localities. A large number of police personnel and paramilitary forces have been deployed to maintain law and order, especially in sensitive pockets. Senior police officers are personally monitoring the situation on the ground.

Police said that additional forces have been stationed near mosques and in adjoining lanes. Pickets have been set up at key locations to regulate movement and prevent any untoward incident. Drone surveillance and CCTV monitoring are also being used to keep a close watch on the area.

Appealing for calm, Delhi Police urged residents not to pay heed to unverified messages or rumours. As per the FIR, the violence began around 12:40 am when police started barricading the area near the Faiz-e-Ilahi Mosque to remove encroachments from government land. It is alleged that a group of around 30–35 people gathered, raised slogans and began pelting stones despite repeated warnings from the administration.

In the incident, five police personnel were injured. Police have reiterated that strict action will be taken against those involved in the violence and that maintaining peace remains their top priority.
