NRI Dies in Punjab After Accidental Shooting from Pistol at Waist

Ferozepur, Punjab: In a shocking incident in Ferozepur district, Punjab, an NRI lost his life after being accidentally shot by his own pistol. The incident occurred when he was getting up from a sofa, and the loaded firearm, strapped to his waist, discharged unexpectedly.

Incident Details
The deceased has been identified as Harpinder Singh, also known as Sonu, who had recently returned to his village, Dhani Sucha Singh, from abroad. According to police reports, Harpinder was sitting on a sofa with a relative when the accident occurred. As he stood up, the pistol at his waist went off, and the bullet struck his abdomen.

Family members rushed to help immediately upon hearing the gunshot, and the entire episode was captured on the house’s CCTV cameras. Harpinder was first taken to a government hospital and later referred to another medical facility in Bathinda. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries on the way.

Background
Police stated that Harpinder had recently returned from abroad and had recently married. He is survived by his two-year-old daughter. Following the incident, a statement was recorded from his father, Darshan Singh. The Ferozepur police have initiated proceedings under Section 194 of the Indian Penal Code and subsequently handed over the body to the family.
