Notorious Tiger Poacher Kalla Bawriya Sentenced in MP; Nepal Extradition in Process

Bhopal, Feb 13, 2026: In a major success against wildlife crime, the Special Tiger Strike Force (STSF) of Madhya Pradesh has secured a conviction against the infamous international tiger poacher, Adin Singh alias Kalla Bawriya, and two of his accomplices. On February 11, the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court in Narmadapuram sentenced all three to four years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of ₹25,000 each.

Arrest and Investigation

Kalla Bawriya was arrested on August 18, 2023, from Gyarsapur in Vidisha district, based on intelligence provided by the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB) of India. Following his arrest, STSF coordinated with national and international agencies to map his criminal network. Through liaison with the South Asia Wildlife Enforcement Network (SAWEN) in Kathmandu, it was revealed that Bawriya had been involved in tiger poaching and trafficking in Nepal since 2012.

Multiple Cases Across States

Apart from his offenses in Nepal, Bawriya faced another tiger poaching and illegal wildlife trade case registered in Maharashtra in 2013. Authorities noted that he had been a wanted figure for several years by forest departments and police forces across multiple states, as well as Nepalese authorities. After his arrest, he was handed over to the Akola Forest Department in Maharashtra under a production warrant.

Further investigations in 2025 led to the arrests of two more accomplices—Pujari Singh and Ramkumar Singh Bawriya from Hoshiarpur, Punjab—identified as key links in his poaching network. A woman named Teropi from Assam was also apprehended for assisting in the operations of the gang.

Extradition to Nepal Imminent

Forest officials stated that the conviction was secured based on scientific and forensic evidence presented by the Assistant Public Prosecutor of Narmadapuram. They further revealed that the Madhya Pradesh Forest Department will coordinate with the central government to initiate the process of extraditing Kalla Bawriya to Nepal, where several cases against him remain pending. The move aims to dismantle a South Asia-wide network of international tiger poaching and wildlife trafficking.
