Bhopal:
In a development that has raised eyebrows within law enforcement circles, Raju Irani alias Rehman Dacoit, the alleged mastermind of the notorious Irani gang involved in criminal activities across 12 Indian states, was granted bail by a special court in Bhopal merely nine days after his arrest.
The bail order was passed on Tuesday by Special Judge Pallavi Dwivedi, who allowed Raju Irani’s release on a personal bond of ₹15,000. The accused had been brought to Bhopal on transit remand from the Surat Crime Branch and was earlier sent to seven days of police custody. After completion of the remand period, he was lodged in jail, following which his counsel moved a bail application.
Court Accepts Compromise Argument
During the hearing, Raju Irani’s counsel, Advocate Zafar Raza, argued that a mutual compromise had been reached between the parties involved in the case, and therefore, the accused deserved the benefit of bail. Accepting the defence’s submissions, the court granted bail to the accused.
Claim of Early Release Turns True
Notably, while being escorted out of the court premises earlier, Raju Irani had confidently claimed that he would be released soon—a statement that has now proven true. His swift release has sparked discussions about the effectiveness of the legal process in dealing with habitual offenders.
A History of Evading the Law
Raju Irani, also known as Rehman Dacoit, is believed to be a key figure in the Irani gang, which has been linked to robbery, theft, cheating, and dealing in stolen property. Police sources say he is known for manipulating legal loopholes and arranging legal assistance for gang members, enabling them to secure bail even in serious cases.
Despite the extensive efforts made by police teams across states to track and apprehend him, the accused’s release on a relatively small bond has led to serious questions about deterrence and accountability in cases involving repeat offenders.
Police officials have stated that they are closely monitoring the situation and will pursue further legal options as the investigation continues.
