Noida Tragedy: Seven-Year-Old Boy Dies After Accidentally Drinking Acid Mistaken for Water

A heartbreaking incident has shaken Noida’s Bahlolpur village after a seven-year-old boy died from severe injuries sustained when he accidentally consumed acid, mistaking it for drinking water while playing inside his family’s shanty.

The tragic incident occurred on December 25 in Sector-63, where the child, identified as Shivranjan, lived with his family in a makeshift dwelling. According to police, the boy was playing when he felt thirsty and picked up a bottle kept inside the hut, unaware that it contained highly corrosive acid.

Acid Stored in Bottle Proves Fatal

Believing the liquid to be water, the child opened the bottle and took a sip. Within moments, he began screaming in pain as the acid caused serious internal injuries. Alarmed family members rushed him to a hospital in Sector-24, where doctors battled to save his life.

Despite medical intervention, the child succumbed to his injuries on Saturday, leaving the family and local community in deep shock and mourning.

Family Background and Police Statement

Police officials from Sector-63 police station stated that the family lives in extreme poverty. The child’s father, Harinarayan, earns a living by collecting garbage for recycling. The boy’s last rites have since been performed.

While no criminal case has been registered, local residents have termed the incident a result of gross negligence, stressing that hazardous substances should never be stored within reach of children—especially in homes with limited space.

Raises Alarming Safety Concerns

The tragedy has once again highlighted the lack of awareness and safety measures regarding the storage of dangerous chemicals in densely populated and economically weaker areas. Residents and child safety advocates have urged authorities to launch awareness drives to prevent such avoidable deaths.

As the family struggles to cope with the loss, the incident serves as a grim reminder of how a moment of oversight can turn fatal, especially for children.
