Noida to Launch ₹27 Crore Project to Drain Water After Techie Yuvraj Mehta’s Death in Sector-150

Noida: Following the tragic death of young software engineer Yuvraj Mehta, who drowned in a water-filled pit in Sector-150, Noida authorities have approved a major plan to drain the accumulated water and prevent future incidents. The project, with an allocated fund of ₹27 crore, aims not only to remove existing water but also to provide a permanent solution for water and sewage drainage across the affected area.

Details of the Project
The initiative will cover 13 sectors, from Sector-150 to Sector-162. According to officials, the pit had been accumulating rainwater and sewage since 2021. The project will involve technical surveys, design, tendering, and construction, with an expected completion time of approximately one year.

The plan includes building proper drainage channels and regulators to ensure rainwater and wastewater are efficiently diverted into the Hindon River. The project will be executed by the Irrigation Department, with oversight from the Noida Authority.

Temporary Measures to Address Immediate Risks
Given the time required for the permanent solution, the Noida Authority has instructed the Irrigation Department to implement temporary measures. Pump sets and provisional drainage systems will be installed to remove water quickly and provide immediate relief to residents and commuters in the area.

Administrative Approval
Noida Authority CEO Krishna Karunesh approved the proposal on Wednesday, including the construction of drains and regulators. The ₹27 crore funding has been sanctioned, and work will commence under the supervision of the Irrigation Department, with ongoing monitoring by the Noida Authority.

Incident Recap
The unfortunate incident occurred on the night of January 16, when Yuvraj Mehta’s car fell into a deep water-filled pit in Sector-150, resulting in his death. Currently, there is no proper drainage system in place across the affected 13 sectors, prompting the immediate approval of this long-term water management project.

CEO Krishna Karunesh emphasized that the work will be carried out as quickly as possible, while also ensuring temporary arrangements are implemented to prevent further hazards during the rainy season.
