Noida to Get Six New Water Police Posts After Engineer Yuvraj Mehta’s Drowning Incident

Noida: The tragic drowning of engineer Yuvraj Mehta in Sector-150 has prompted Noida authorities to strengthen water safety and disaster management measures in the district. Following this incident, the Police Commissionerate has approved the establishment of six new Water Police posts in sensitive areas to prevent accidents and ensure public safety during large gatherings.

Under the direction of Police Commissioner Laxmi Singh, these posts will be strategically deployed across Noida’s three zones. In Noida Zone, the first post will be at Okhla Barrage, Sector-126, and the second near the Kalindi Kunj Yamuna Bridge. Central Noida will host a post at Kulesra, Eco-Tec-3, on the Hindon riverbank. Four posts in Greater Noida will be positioned at Knowledge Park’s Kambakshpur Yamuna Bank, Dadri Kot Canal, Khairli Canal Bridge in Dankaur, and Rabupura on the Chandigarh Yamuna Canal. Locations were chosen based on past incidents, crowd density, and risk assessment.

Each post will be equipped with modern life-saving gear, two rescue boats, and a team including a head officer, head constable, and constables. A network of local divers, boat operators, and disaster volunteers will be trained for rapid response in emergencies. The Relief Commissioner’s office will provide specialized water-rescue training to personnel.

Police officials said the posts will be responsible for maintaining law and order at ghats, managing crowds, checking boat capacities, and conducting immediate rescues during emergencies. This initiative aims to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of devotees during large religious events such as Kanwar Yatra, Chhath Puja, and Durga Puja.

The Police Commissionerate emphasized that these posts will be fully operational, staffed with trained personnel and modern equipment, ensuring a robust response to any water-related emergencies in Noida.
