Greater Noida/Noida: In a shocking incident at a high-rise society in Noida, a thief wearing a helmet tried to snatch a chain from an elderly woman inside a lift. The woman raised an alarm, forcing the criminal to flee after pushing her. CCTV footage of the attempted robbery has gone viral on social media, sparking outrage and leading to strict action against police officials.
Senior Police Officials Removed
Noida Police Commissioner Laxmi Singh has suspended ACP Diksha Singh of Central Noida and SHO Manoj Singh of Bisrakh Police Station. The decision came after a review of law-and-order lapses and failure to control crime in their jurisdictions.
Details of the Incident
The incident took place four days ago at La Residencia Society, Tower B-1, No. 15. Bharati Jani, accompanied by her daughter, entered the lift when a man wearing a helmet followed her and attempted to snatch her chain. The woman shouted, prompting the thief to push her and escape.
After the incident, the elderly woman reported the matter to her family. Her son, Narendra Jani, said the family is still shaken by the event, describing it as a terrifying experience.
CCTV Footage Sparks Public Outcry
CCTV footage clearly shows the helmeted thief entering the lift and fleeing the scene. Residents of the society have expressed anger over what they describe as “poor security arrangements.” Many complain that despite paying high maintenance charges, no concrete safety measures are in place, and security guards are often absent.
Police Action Following Public and Media Attention
During a late-night crime review meeting, Police Commissioner Laxmi Singh took a strict stance against officers showing negligence in maintaining law and order. Both ACP Diksha Singh and SHO Manoj Singh were immediately removed from their posts for failing to ensure security in their respective areas.
The incident has highlighted growing concerns about safety in high-rise societies and has prompted calls from residents for stronger security measures.
