By Devesh Pandey, Noida

In a major breakthrough, the Noida unit of the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) has arrested a notorious fugitive robber, Amit, also known as Ankit, who had been on the run for 14 years. The 50,000 INR reward-warranted criminal was apprehended in the Kavindagar area of Ghaziabad.

The accused, identified as Amit alias Ankit alias Raju alias Rahul, hails from Furoona village, Phurona police station area, Madhubani district, Bihar. He has been involved in a series of robberies across Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Delhi, and Mumbai.

Criminal Background

According to STF officials, Amit discontinued his education after the 9th grade and soon entered the world of crime. In 2012, seeking employment in Mumbai, he came in contact with Ashok Mandal and took up a job as a domestic worker. That same year, he and an accomplice stole 300,000 INR in cash and jewelry from his employer’s house, leading to his arrest by Mumbai police.

After being released, Amit, along with Ashok Mandal and Surendra Kamat, carried out a major robbery in Ghaziabad’s Kavindagar area in December 2012, making away with 5 million INR in cash and gold-silver jewelry.

His criminal activities continued over the years. In 2015, he was jailed for motorcycle theft in Madhubani, Bihar. Upon release, he moved to Delhi, where, along with an associate named Guddu, he looted 800,000 INR and jewelry from Naraina, followed by a 200,000 INR heist in New Friends Colony, during which his accomplices were caught while he escaped to Kolkata. In 2017, he carried out another 500,000 INR robbery in Kolkata with an accomplice named Pradeep. After serving his sentence, Amit moved to Noida and in February 2025, robbed 500,000 INR and jewelry in Sector-61. He was briefly arrested but released on bail.

STF Operation

The operation was led by Additional SP Rajkumar Mishra of the Noida STF unit. Acting on intelligence reports about active wanted criminals in the region, the team traced Amit to Kavindagar, Ghaziabad, where he was hiding under multiple aliases. Following his arrest, he was interrogated, and substantial evidence led to his formal arrest.

During questioning, Amit confessed that his gang operated in a highly organized manner: a member would first pose as a domestic worker to reconnoiter homes, and then loot them, often holding elderly residents hostage.

The accused has been presented before Kavindagar Police Station in connection with pending cases, while local authorities are conducting further legal proceedings. STF officials hope this crackdown will curb interstate criminal activities.
