Noida: Noida police have arrested a fraudster, Guddu Alam, who allegedly swindled over Rs 2 crore from around 20 clients under the pretext of providing interior design services. Authorities are actively searching for four other accomplices involved in the scam.
The Arrest and Investigation
The Sector-63 police station in Noida apprehended 35-year-old Guddu Alam, a B.Tech graduate originally from Bihar, who was residing in Chipiyana Khurd, Tigri, Greater Noida. The accused, along with four absconding partners, had registered a company named i Home Master Private Limited at G-172, Sector-63.
During the arrest, police recovered six monitors, six CPUs, six keyboards, and a mobile phone from Alam’s possession. The operation was conducted using a combination of manual intelligence and electronic surveillance.
ADCPC Central Noida Santosh Kumar stated that Alam, through his company, had contracted interior work with about 20 clients, collecting approximately Rs 2 crore. He allegedly provided false assurances, failed to commence work, and threatened clients with abuse and physical harm when they demanded refunds.
In one instance, he collected around Rs 10 lakh for interior work in a Greater Noida flat but neither completed the work nor returned the money. Police had registered cases at Sector-63 police station regarding these incidents.
Modus Operandi
During interrogation, Guddu Alam revealed that he had been operating i Home Master Private Limited since 2021. He entered agreements with homeowners for interior design projects and collected 50–60% of the total cost as advance. He then assigned labor to partially disrupt the work and, if new clients appeared, took money from them as well to prevent homeowners from approaching other designers.
Alam also admitted to gaining clients’ trust by completing select works, showcasing them on social media, and using phone calls to attract more customers. He confessed to spending the defrauded money on personal hobbies, deliberately keeping clients tied to his company through advance agreements.
Next Steps
Sector-63 police have confirmed the arrest of Alam and intensified efforts to apprehend the remaining four fugitives involved in the fraud.
