Noida: A serious allegation of workplace harassment has surfaced from an IT company located in Sector-126, Noida. A female employee, who has been working in the company since 2018 on deputation, has lodged a complaint with the Sector-126 police station, accusing six people, including the head of the finance department, of misconduct.
The complainant, a resident of Vaishali, Ghaziabad, stated that she started her career in 2013 as a financial analyst in a reputed company, which later merged with another firm. On September 1, 2018, she and her colleagues were transferred to the new company.
Allegations Against Finance Head
According to the employee, the finance head, Sanjay Kohli, began harassing her in 2019. He allegedly made inappropriate advances, obscene remarks, and demanded sexual favors in exchange for promotions. When she refused, he pressured her to apologize and threatened her against approaching the management or police.
The employee further alleged that after previous complaints, the investigating officer sided with the accused, prompting him to assign her increasingly difficult and challenging projects. The finance head reportedly targeted other female employees as well, granting promotions only to those who complied with his demands.
Denied Maternity Leave and Excessive Workload
The complainant accused the accused and his associates of conspiring against her by assigning her to the wrong team, denying her maternity leave, overburdening her with work, and threatening termination if targets were not met. She also alleged that her private issues were publicly mocked.
Police Action
Following her complaint, the police have registered a case against Sanjay Kohli, Saurabh Mehdiratta, Bharat K. Baid, Sumita Chhabra, Khushboo Malik, and Meha Rajendran Babu. ACP Praveen Kumar Singh confirmed that the investigation is currently underway.
This case has raised serious concerns regarding workplace harassment and gender-based discrimination in corporate India, highlighting the urgent need for strict enforcement of employee protection and anti-harassment policies.
